Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), symbolizing the faith and trust of millions of Indians is celebrating 55 years of meaningful existence. As part of the Insurance Week Celebrations
(1 September 2011 to 7 September 2011), various social and customer oriented activities were arranged.One such initiative was the setting up of special service counters for speedy settlement of claims, spot revival, and for other policy service matters
Cultural competitions and quiz programmes were also conducted for college and school children.
LIC fulfilled its social obligations by providing drinking water facility to schools in remote rural areas. Wheel chairs were provided to disabled poor children.

LIC services more than 28 crore individual policies besides covering more than 9 crore people under Group Insurance/ superannuation schemes and more than 3 crore families under social security schemes.
In 2010 -2011, LIC achieved a Total Premium of Rs.203,358 Crores.
In this period it settled over 183 lakh claims for a total amount of Rs. 52160 crores.
